Project Description

Whiteboard Explainer Video

With a whiteboard video, the approach is very slightly different. As the hand tends to draw what the dialogue is saying, so quite often the best approach is to be literal with what you draw. That said it is possible to deviate form this slightly, using artistic license to throw in a few interest takes on how things should be drawn.

Whiteboard explainer videos are a great way to educate the audience, as seeing an image unfold in front of your eyes is very engaging. Whiteboard explainers are sometimes more cost effective to produce as there is no actual character or asset animation as it relies on the hand drawing out an image to keep the viewer hooked.

Software and Processes used

Every project is different, and quite often requires using different software to accomplish. In the most part Adobe Photoshop is used to create any rough concept work and visuals. Form this the final artwork is then either finished in Photoshop or taken into Adobe Illustrator to create neater lines. It all depends on the look and feel required for the final artwork.  When creating animations, the initial process is the same for artwork, but then taken into Animation software.

When animating, software such as Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe After Effects and Apple Motion are utilised with all final video editing done in Final Cut Pro.

Whiteboard Explainer Videos

Whiteboard Explainer videos are a popular method of creating videos. The main reason for this is that they tend ot be quite cost effective to produce. That said, if you start adding in complex artwork styles, elements of motion graphic animations and colour, then the production costs can soon stack up.

So  a basic whiteboard explainer video can cost a fraction of a motion graphic style explainer video, provided you keep things simple. The most cost effective approach is to keep it to black key-lines and shade and hints of colour. This helps to keep it true to the ‘whiteboard’ style and allows a video to be produce quite quickly.

The end results look great, throw in a professional voice over and some backing music, and oyu have a video that is guaranteed to engage your audience.
